LAWN TENNIS.
THE NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. TVenty-four members attended tin annual meeting of the New Plymouth Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club held on Saturday evening. Mr. ,T. Paton presided. An apoloiry for absence was received from Dr. Leatham. The committee's report (which has already been published) and the balancesheet were adopted. In moving the { adoption of the hitter the chairman re-' marked that in lflOfi the club's overdraft was about £2OO, but at present it was about £lOl, this including outstanding liabilities. Part of last year's reduction in the overdraft was caused by the fact that the club did not have to buy new balls during the season. There was litte chance of reducing it this year. Referring to the croquet lawn, he pointed out that the receipts from this branch were £3l, but the rent of the section was £ls, labor cost at least £l2, and there was the cost of maintenance, so that the club had made a loss in this direction. But that could not be helped at present. What the club did want was increased membership, especially oil the men's side. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—President, Dr. H. B. Leatham; vice-president, Dr.»G. Home; lion, secretary and treasurer. Mr. H. Stocker; hon. auditor, Mr. J. C. Nicholson; management committee, Messrs. J. Morton, J. C. Nicholson, C. 11. Weston, C. Webster, and A. C. Thompson. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to the ladies and to the press.
