FIRES.
FLAXMTLL BURNED. By Telegraph —Prees Association. Palmersiton N., Monday. George Craw's flaxmill at Linton was burnt to the ground on Saturday afternoon, while Craw was in Palmerston. Only three men were present at the time, all the others being away at a meeting. The fire originated in the scutching department, and had a big hold before it was discovered. This is the fifth time that Craw has had his mills burnt down. The damage is estimated at over £IOOO. Thirty men were employed at the mill.
AUCTION MART DESTROYED. Christcbureh, Monday. J. K, Wallace's auction mart and offices «t Kaikoura were destroyed by fire early this morning. The building and contents were insured for £230 in the Alliance Office, but the loss greatly exceeds that amount. A sum of £IOO was in the safe in a cash box. The coin was melted and the notes burnt. The Kaikoura Racing Club's totalisator, insured for £OO, was also destroyed in the fire.
BICYCLE SHOP GUTTED. Eketahuna, Monday. A fire caused by a brazing lamp exploding this morning gutted a shop owned by Herbert and occupied by Wallace as a bicycle shop. A sharp fight confined the flames to this building, the brigade doing good work with a chemical engine. Insurances on the building wore £ 150 in the London and Liverpool and Globe Office, Wallace's stock and tools £2OO in the State Offica.
