THE BAPTIST CONFERENCE
By Te/legraph —Press Association. Napier, Last Night. The Baptist Conference was continued to-day. The reports of the auxiliaries were presented:—Auckland by the Rev. A. North; Wellington by Rev. C. Cathie; Canterbury by Rev. G. D. Gardiner; and Otago by' Rev. T. 11. Radford. The reports', that of Auckland, showed that much aggressive work was being done. The Wellington auxiliary has commenced a new 'branch in Masterton. After a prolonged discussion, the reports were adopted. The report of the Manse Fund showed that the fund was operating beneficially, but needed increased support from the churches. The report of the Remeura Children's Home showed that during the year forty children had been maintained, but ma-ny applications for admission were refused owing to the lack of accommodation. The committee appeals to the churches for help to enlarge the building. The annual meeting of the Baptist Women's Missionary Union was held. The report showed that £3i7o was raised for mission work during the year. Mrs. R. S. Gray (Christchureh) was elected president. Miss Speckling (Auckland) secretary; 'Mesdaines Smeeton, Hinton, Wilson, Driver and Miss Bell, vice-presi-dents; and Mrs. Blackburn treasurer. A resolution urging that China be released from the treaty which forces upon her the necessity of taking opium was carried.
