The New Zealand ladies' .golf championship meeting was brought to a close yesterday on the lleretaunga links, which were in perfect order. A very large number of spectators made the journey from town, the special train being crowded. The weather was again beautifully fine, everything .being in favor of good golf. The great event was the linnl of the championship between Miss Gould (Otago) and Miss L. Brandon (Wellington). Quite an army of spectators followed ■the game, among those who tramped round the links being Lord Islington and General Godley. The match gave rise to a very keen iKittle, which continued to the last hole. Neither player was quite -at her best, nevertheless very few mistakes were made. The first hole was halved in 5. Miss Brandon taking the next dn 5 to 7. The third was halved in 4, Miss Brandon taking the nest by 4 to 5, and the fifth in a perfect 3 to 4, this making her 3 up. The Otago lady -now showed improved form, taking the Oth in C to 7, the 7th in a like score, and the Bth, the longest hole on the links, also in 6 to 7. This made them all square. Miss Gould, showing pretty play at 'the Oth, holed in 4 to 5, and' was now 1 up—a great recovery. The local player, thanks to a good putt, holed the 10th in 4 to 5 all square. Miss Brandon won the 11th in fi to 7, the next being halved in 5. The 13th fell to Miss Gould, thus again making it all .square, the interest now being very keen. The local player won i the next in a perfect 3 to 4 by the aid of a three yards' putt, "but at the loth Miss Brandon failed to carry the high bank with her tee shot and lost in 4 to 5. AH square. At the Kith, thanks to laying herself a dead stymie, Miss Gould failed, while the 17th was halved in an excellent 5, Miss Brandon 'being dormy at the. 18th. The Otago lady extinguished her ctonce iby badly topping her drive, and the second she made a great effort to recover with a magnificent cleek shot to the green. Mi 3« Brandon, however, playing in very correct style, holed in 5 to (!, winning by 2 up amidst enthusiastic cheers for both players. Subsequently the prize* were presented by Lord Islington, who congratulated Miss Brandon on winning the coveted honor and condoled with the losers. The links, he sa'nl, were in fine order. The management had been admirable, while a line sporting spirit bad been shown by all the competitors, who, he was sure, would remember the 17th annual tournament with very great pleasure. Afterwards the Wellington Ladies' Golf Olwb entertained the visitors to a big afternoon tea. During the morning a consolation handicap was played, Miss Brewster winning in the under lfi handicap class, while Miss O'Meara and Mrs. Burnett ! Stuart tied in the over 10 handicap if class.
AUCKLAND CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. Auckland, Last Night. In the final for the Auckland Golf Club's championship yesterday, 36 holes, ,1. C. Burns beat \V. B. Colbeck, 1 up. ft was a fine exhibition of golf, and the match was keenly contested.
NGAMOTU CLUB. The 'last competition of the season for the St. Andrew's Cross was played on Saturday, when IS players took part. The day was beautifully fine, with a moderate wind from the west. The best play of the iseason was seen, P. McCord winning the competition with the exceptionally good score of 78 gross and 72 net. Several other good cards were also put in, the following being the six best and all being below 80 constitutes, a record: —

An extra match will he played on the following Saturday for a prize donated by Mr. C. A. Jones, and it is hoped that another match will be arranged for the 28th if the grass will permit.
TARAHUA CLUB. ' On the Tarahua links on Saturday the ladies' foursome match was won by Hisses A. Putt and Copestake, the run-nera-up being Misses Collis and Gilbert.
