THE PATEA SEAT. , By Telegraph —Press Association. Hawera, Wednesday. Mr. P. ODeu, candidate for the Patea Ki'iit, addressed the electors last night. He declared himself a Government .supporter. He upheld the present education system, favored a bare majority on the no-license question, opposed the granting of the freehold to Crown tenants , and would stop the further sale of Crown lands, lie would abolish the I3pper House or make it elective, and preferred a proportional representation system to the second ballot. He received a vote of confidence.
Replying to a statement that a Minister would run for the Patea scat, Mr. Q'Dea said that would not affect him; lie would go to the poll.
LABOURITE FOR WAXGAXUT. ! Wanganui, Last Night. , ' Mr. W. A. Yeitch, president of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants of New Zealand, was last night selected as, Labor candidate for the Wangamii .scat at the general election. There are now four candidates, the other three being Messrs Hogan (Government), Hutchison (Opposition), and Mackay (Independent).
