AN ASTONISHED CUSTOMER. Auckland, September 18 . A burglary, committed some months ago, when tho shop of Mr. W. Lareen, jeweller and curio dealer, Shortland street, Auckland, was entered and a quantity of greenstone jewellery removed, is stated to have had a somewhat amusing sequel on Saturday. It is stated that a young Englishman who is stopping at one of Auckland's leading hotels, went into Mr. Larsen's shop in order to purchase some greenstone, and to give an indication of what he wanted he produced some ornaments which he had bought in Wellington. These were immediately identified as some of those stolen a few months previously, and the astonished man accordingly suggested that the\police should bo informed. As he was able to show a receipted account for the articles, and could also find friends to identify him he was soon set at liberty, tho greenstone, however, being retained. Mr. Larsen was approached by a reporter yesterday morning in reference to the incident, but declined to make any statement, positive or negative, regarding it.- The police are likewise very reticent, though they state that the robbery is stiii under investigation.
