FOOTBALL.
NORTHERN UNION GAME. THE 'AUSTRALIANS BANQUETED. By Cable—Pre«3 Association—Copyright. London, September 18. The Australian League footballers had a preliminary practice at Fulham, and are in good condition. Mr. Barton Smith, on behalf of Mr. Joynton Smith, of Sydney, banqueted the footballers, Mr. Coughlan, AgentGeneral, and Burgess, the awimmer, being present. Mr, Coughlan, in supporting the toast of the team, said Australians could have no finer advertisement than these stalwarts. Mr. Ford said it was largely due to Mr. Joynton Smith that the Northern Union League was now dominant over the Rugby game in Australia. He was confident the team would maintain the best Australian Rugby traditions.
