ANTI-GAMBLING
A DRASTIC BILL IX SOUTH AFRICA. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Capetown, September 15. The Union Government has introduced a drastic Bill restricting ra«e meetings and prohibiting betting at any sports with the exception of horse racing, and then only at the racecourse by means of the totalisator. The Bill abolishes the business of bookmaking, prohibits the publication of ante-post betting, or ante-post information relating to races run either inside or outside the Union. The Government takes 2 "per cent, of the gross takings of the totalisator, plus 2 per cent, of the profits.
