A CART RAN DOWN

DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The second south express tonight ran down the Express Company's cart at a level crossing at the north end of the Mataura railway station. The horse was killed, the cart smashed, and the driver (Patrick McCarthy) was found unconscious and bleeding from the head. He was brought to town by train and lies in the Southland Hospital in a critical condition, with serious injuries to his skull. McCarthy belongs to Waikaka, is 21 years of age, and unmarried.
