Smith, of Wellington, stated that his union on Friday last received a cable ifrom Ben Tillett, asking that the waterside workers of the Dominion show their sympathy with the federated dockers of London, then on strike, by refusing to work the New Zealand Shipping Company's and the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's boats, these companies being concerned in the English upheaval. Mr. Smith added that the newspaper cablegrams were not clea* whether wort had been resumed or not. Mr. Smith (Patea) thought that if they could show their practical sympathy with their comrades at Home by holding up these boats in New Zealand ports, they should do so. Mr. Legg (Gisborne) pointed out thaiit was impossible to do so under the Arbitration Act. Mr. Terry (Wellington): " You could db so and go to gaol." Mr. Canahan (Auckland) said he had been prepared to move that the conference should instruct all 1 the unions of New Zealand to cease work at once on these steamers.
