Mr, C. W. Saxton, who has jnst' severed his connection with the firm of Mr. 'Newton King, was the recipient of a gold sovereign case from the staff. Mr. Shtiw made the presentation in a few well-chosen remarks,, and Mr. Saxton suitably replied. Mr. George Brown has been appointed Government veterinary surgeon at New Plymouth, and his services will be at the disposal of fanners and stockowners generally to investigate any serious outbreak of disease and to give advice as to the prevention of disease in stock. Before coming out to New Zealand 1 under engagement to join the Veterinary Department, Mr. Brown had been in practice in various parte of England. Advice was received yesterday of the deat on Saturday, at Raglan, of Mr. George Henry Moon, who came out to Now Plymouth in the barque Blenheim with his parents, arriving here on November 7, 1842. He was the second son of the late Mr. Philip Moon. Some time in the fifties he loft New Plymouth for Raglan, where he engaged in farming, and afterwards he kept a hotel in that township. , Mr. H. VV. Whiteombc, who for some years pasrt had been connected with the outside staff of Mr. Newiton King, and who recently resigned his position in order to enter into partnership with Mr. R. F. Cornwall, was presented on Saturday night by the commercial travellers of the town with a handsome gold watch. Several very complimentary speeches were niado concerning the many good qualities of Mr. Whitcombe, and the happy relationship that had always existed between him and his fellowtravellers. Mr. Whiitcombe suitably acknowledged the gift and the kind remarks which had been made concerning him.
