NORTH TARANAKI HUNT
POIXI-TO-POINT STEEPLECHASE By permission of the Minister of Internal Affairs, a point-to-point steeplechase was held by the North Taranaki Hunt Club on Mr. F. Salway's property, Bell Block, yesterday afternoon. Despite the exceptionally stiff state of the course, the going right through w«« perfect. Very close finishes were the order in each race. The following are the results:— Heavy-weight Hunters' Steeple.—Mr. A. Clirs Kura 1, Mr. B. H. Chaney'a Star Lass 2, Mr. G. Foreman's Barney 3. Seven starters. Light-Weight Hunters' Steeple.—Mr. B. Cole'e Bachelor's Button 1. Mr. W. Boston's Pompey 2, Mr. N. Bewley's Ruwn 3. Six starters. Hunters' Flat Race.—Mr H. Matthews' Rua, Mr. W. Hookham'e Otaoroa 2, Mr. A. H. Halcombe's Kaianganui 3. Seven starters. At the close of the meeting the members of the Hunt were entertained nt the residence of Mr. A. Cliff, Smart road, where Mr. Blundell presented the trophies to the winners of the abovementioned races. The club will hold its annual wee meeting next Thursday. Splendid nominations have been received, and a record day's sport is looked forward to.
