OIL LAUNCH BURNED.
NARROW ESCAPE OF WHALERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Blenheim, Last Night. Early this morning the whaling launch owned by J. Pearns and Co., of Picton, was totally destroyed by Are in Queen Charlotte Sound. The launch wa3 beached last night for purposes of cleaning and overhauling. On one of the occupants lighting a lantern preparatory to beginning operations, the benzine ignited. This was followed by an explosion of dynamite, and the three men were hurled some distance along the beach, •■e, named George Baxter, received painful burns. The boat was blown to atoms, and everything lost, including the whaling gear. The loss is estimated at close on £BOO. '
