THE TARIFF FIGHT. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Washington, August 4. The Democratic Cotton Tariff Bill received the support of the Insurgent Republican Senators. It was carried by an overwhelming majority in the House of Representatives. The Bill cuts the tariff on cotton manufactured goods from 48 to 27 per cent, ad valorem.
The Democrats arc planning to carry the Wool Bill over the presidential veto by securing the necessary Senatorial majority. WOOL BILL PASSED. Received 6, 5.5 p.m. Washington, August 5. The Democratic leaders' force secured sufficient support to pass the Wool Bill cien t support to pass the Wool Bill over the Presidential veto. Conferences are being held with a view to reaching a compromise over the Bill.
