A COWARDLY ASSAULT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Thursday. Particulars of a cowardly assault were ventilated in the Police Court this morning, when James Kennedy and John Gunn were each sentenced to two months' imprisonment. It appears that a man named Vincent went into a lo<nil hotel and displayed a £SO note in the presence of accused, who followed him to the back premises of another hotel where they set upon him, knocking him down, kicking him and causing severe injuries. lie was left senseless and subsequently picked up. He had, however, deposited the note with the hotelkeeper before going to the back premises. PAHIATUA RACING CLUB. Pahiatua, Thursday.
A largely attended meeting of members of the Pahiatua Racing Club, representatives of local institutions and townspeople entered a strong protest against the unfair treatment meted out to the club and district by the Racing Commission in recommending that no totalieator permit be granted to the club and that it should coalesce with the Woodville Club to race at Woodville. A deputation was appointed to wait on the Minister of Internal Affairs on Saturday.
