A BANKRUPTCY ANNULLED.
A HUSBAND'S INEFFECTIVE FINESSE.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. What was described by the Chief Justice as a novel application was decided in tflio Supreme Court by His Honor to-day. The case was the first of the kind in Now Zealand, and -was in the form of an application by Margaret Ackins, wife of a railway servant drawing £355 per year, to annul her hushand's bankruptcy. The parties have been separated since October, 18!)9. The husband agreed to pay his wife £'i per week for the first year and £2 10s per week thereafter, but never paid more than the former sum, and was siied for arrears. He then filed his iehedule as a bankrupt. It wa,i stated that there was a moral agreement by his wife to accept £2 a week, and altogether he had paid her and her children £IBOO. The Chief Justice said it was a deliberate attempt to get rid of the agreement for the support of the man's wife and family. There could not be a clearer abuse of the court than in this case, and the bankruptcy would be annulled, with costs five guineas against the husband.
