Clia.rles Miehaud, a, peasant, has been awarded £I2OO compensation for seventeen years' penal servitude in French New Guinea for murdering a neighboring farmer. The confession of another convict resulted in Midland's acquittal. Midland is 40 years old, and his wife throughout believed him innocent.

There was a tremendous ovation in court when Midland's innocence was proclaimed, It was also placarded in the Ambusson district and inserted in the newspapers.
