COMPULSORY TRAINING. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Sydney, July 3. The new system of compulsory training operate! throughout Australia on i Saturday. The attendances at drills were considered satisfactory. 1 TASMANIAN REVENUE. Hobart, July 3. The revenue returns are £972,126, a decrease of £38,085. FEDERAL PAYMENTS, j Sydney, July 3. The Federal Treasurer has paid the State £128,404 in settlement of (the per capita return for the year. This is £21,784 less than was expected. Mr. Carmichael stated that the return was based on the recent census instead of on the Federal Statistician's estimate on December 31. COMMONWEALTH FINANCE. Sydney, July 3. The Federal Government offers the State 3 per cent, interest on properties transferred to the Commonwealth at tha inauguration of federation. All the States decline the amount. Victoria is asking 3% per cent., New South Wales 3.58 per cent., and the other States 3% per cent. A considerable amount of correspondence on the matter is proceeding.
