A daring abduction took place in the Central Park, New York. Six men, believed to be members of a kidnapping gang, jumped into a taxi-cab, seized a girl, shot her male escort, and dashed off before the police had time to act. The wounded man declines to give the girl's name. ASPHYXIATED IN A BATTLESHIP. London, July 2. One of the Superb's crew was suffocated, and perished while trying to save the other two.
SENTENCED FOR ESPIONAGE. Berlin, July 2. Captain Lux, a Frenchman, and conductor of the intelligence bureau at Belfort, who 'has been in regular communication with several persons in Germany, has been sentenced at Leipzig to six years' confinement in a fortress for espionage. ■ , CHOLERA AT TRIESTE. BRITISH REVENUE. London, July 2. The revenue for the quarter is £38,808,G73. Customs totalled £7,576,000, excise £8,450,000, and stamp revenue £2,123,000. The large decrease in the revenue is due to the inflation in 1910 in consequence of collecting arrears of income tax. POWDER CAR EXPLODES. New York, Jul; 2. A carload of powder standing in a tunnel on the Southern Pacific railroad, near San Francisco, exploded, derailing an approaching freight train. Many of the train's crew were injured, and the tunnel wrecked.
