Sydney, June 27,
R. Amst, the world's sculling cnam< pion, and Harry Pearcc, the challenger are both steadily training for the championship race on July 29.
Arnat has now made Mortlake his headquarters, and has with him An. Fclton as pacemaker and Harry Nathan a.s 'trainer. "Rigger," in Sydney Telegraph, states:--" Arnst is still doing heavy work, lie goes out every morning and afternoon, besides doing a gtud deal of land work, lie lias got the extra two weeks he wants in which to train, and, consequently, will not have in do such .'trenuous training as lie would have to do had the race been two weeks earlier. The confident feeling of the Pearce party dots not in any way alarm him or even rufl'le his thoughts." The only thing that concerned him was the .possibility of a I return of his recent illness, and now that lie has tested himself in every way, and found that there is no likelihood of that interfering with him, lie is as confident that lie can beat I'arco as ever he. was. in faet, he does not consider the possibility of defeat at all. The only thing he bothers himself about is getting into ms best condition. Once in thai state he lias little fear of anything else. Ue told mo yesterday that lie was feeling tip-top, : and as strong as ever. He scaled 13st I Dili then, but he. would go to the post at about I.lst 41b. Thia leaves about six pounds that ho has yet to remove, and as he can do it gradually there is every reason to believe that he will be seen at his best on July 29." t'earco i« to ho trained by Peter Nelson. Arnst's old trainer, ami will have a.s pacemaker his brother Syd. Sydhas acted in this capacity to Harry in all his recent races, and in every "case! lie'lias gone to the post as well'as ho could be. It might be mentioned here that Nelson trained Arnst when he met Pearce before, and also went to New Zealand with him, and trained him when he met and defeated Webb for the championship of the world. As a trainer, Nelson wants little introduction to the sporting public, as he has been a trainer of leading athletes for a long time. It w sufficient to say that, barring accidents, Pearce should go out on the 'day of the race thoroughly fit. Pearce has ' also the extra assistance of Syd. Kemp ' now. When it is stated that he only ;
scales 13st now, with several weeks to go before, the race, it will lie seen Hint no must hasten slowly so as not to overilo it. lln desires to row at 12st 11)11) on .mly 29.
