NAPIER PARK RACES. FIRST DAY. By Tel^jrapli.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. The winter meeting of the Napier Park Racing Club commenced to-day. Heavy showers fell at frequent intervals, and the air was bitingly cold, and the course, as well as the grounds inside and outside the enclosure, were soon in a sloppy condition. A total of £947!) was invested, us against £OO3O last year. Results: Moteo Hack Hurdles.—Captain Bell 1, Bspar.tero 2, Tino Toa 3. Also started: Bollin, Cullman, Artie, Kildonan, Golden Clasp, Boyne Water, Merrie Valet, Polynices, Whitestone. Won by a. length and a half. Time. 3min 26% sec.
Petone Hack Steeplechase—Wirral 1, Hoanga 2, Captain Jingle 3. Also started: Wanstead, Rosegrove, Sardonyx. Castle, Canter, Kohupatiki and Mail! a. Won by half a length, twenty lengths between second and third. The onlv other horse to finish was Wanstead. Rosegrove fell at the last jump. Time, tain 33 4-ssec.
Stewards' Stakes Handicap.—Amato 1, Gold Circle 2. Ariom 3. Also started: Sir Frisco, Dreadless, Projectile, Eclogue, Cork, and Separator. Eclogue tell. It waa a punishing finish, necks separating the placed horses. Time, lmin ~>3 l-ssec. Napier Steeplechase.—Winiata I,' Lull 2. Te Aral 3. Also started: Eldorado. Mount Cook. Xavier, Lingerer. Mount Cook ran oil at the sod wall. Xavier and' Eldorado fell. Won by a neck. Te
Arai wasr a long way back. Lingere was the only other horse to finish. Time, 7min 10 l-59ee.
Ladies' Bracelet.—To Whetu 1, Peary 2, Onslow Park 3. Also ran: Merrie Lrtd, Bas Bleu and Longboat. Won by a head. Time, 2min 2P> 4-oscc. • Ahuriri Hurdle Handicap- Windage 1, Tern 2, Golden Water 3. Also ran: Loolanter, Mallet. Merrie Lawn. Mallet lost his rider. Won by a length and a half. Time, 3min 34sec. Settlers' Hack Handicap.—Pcrceler 1, Fuss 2, Ortygia 3. Also ran: Seaweed.
Gold Battery, Amaru, Mannpai, Eiya. Composed, Esmeh, Golden Age, Awha, (Goldfinch, Goldemar, Fleetweek, .SufTragctte, Limelight, Hatana, Lock Maben. Won on the post by a nose. A good third. Time, limn 25sec.
