BANQUETTED B\ LIBERAL CLUB. By cable.—Press Association-—Copyright London, June 20. The National .Liberal Club gave a luncheon 'to the overseas Ministers, at which 450 guests were present.. Earl Carrington presided. Lord Haldane, in a speech, said that the Empire owed a good deal in connection with the Imperial Conference, to the vicissitudes, of party Government. making prominent new aspects of Imperial ailairs. The preference controversy set people thinking about alternatives. Mr. Fisher, replying, asked why Britain should not reach out an inviting hand to other enlightened nations, particularly America, who would co-operate, so that they might say to those wishing to disturb the peace of the world, "You shall not do it." He welcomed Mr. Tlalrtann's suggestion that the conference might be held away from London, and added that n. little might, be learned from Australia, since the colonies were more familiar with Britain than Britain with the colonies. Sir Joseph Ward also responded.
