OMATA. (From Our Own Correspmident). On Thursday evening, June 15th, the school concert took place in Omata hall. A most appreciative audience filled the hall, there being barely standing room. Mr. E. Bayley, chairman of committee, explained that the concert was given for the purpose of raising funds for school prizes, and took place at this time in the year so as not to interfere with the work of the examination later on. Mr. Pearson and Mrs. 1). Hooker then opened the evening's performance by playing a duet in their usual brilliant and finished style. Later on Mr. Pearson played a duet with Miss Ona Penwarden, and I must not fail to congratulate the little lady on her really good execution. Mr. Lovell was the comic star of the evening, and was vociferously encored, to which he very kindly responded on both occasions. His ''get up" was immense. Mr. Fenton (a new voice to an Omata audience) was extremely good, and both his songs were a real treat to listen to, a treat we hope to have repeated at no distant date. The children's exercises in clubs and dumb-bells were particularly good indeed, every item both by adults and juveniles being worthy of the highest praise. The following is the programmer—Pianoforte duet, Mrs. D. Tlooker and Mr. Pearson; song, "Go to Sea," Mr. Fenton; recitation, "Buns and Billy Blacknase," infants; song, "Dorecn," Mrs. Meyenberg; clubs, senior pupils; song, "Killy Cranky," Mr. Lovell; song, "Distant Faces," senior pupils; song, "Snowllakcs," Miss C. Mr. Fenton; song, "Land of Little Children," senior pupils; dumb-bells, infants; song, "Love Me and the World is Ours," Miss Penwarden; song, "John Willy come on," Mr. Lovell; action song, "Cock-a-doodle-doo," infants; farce, "Men and Women's Rights," Misses E. Bayley and Ruth Evans, Masters C., Jury and M. Taylor. At the conclusion of the programme the chairman thanked the audience for their attendance, which would result in a substantial addition to the prize, funds, viz., £4 19s 6d. He also thanked Mr. and Mrs. Meyenberg and Miss Mclsaac for the trouble they had taken in training the children, the ladies and gentlemen who had assisted at the concert, and Mr. Pearson for presiding at the piano, and congratulated all on the success achieved. He mentioned that a dance would take place when the Toom waa cleared, and also said he had been asked to say that another dance would take place on Wednesday, June 21st. After reminding the parents present that the householders' meeting for electing a school committee would take place on Monday, June 10th, and asking all to turn up, he called for "God Save the King," which was enthusiastically sung by all present.
