WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD

(Rro» ©«r Own Correspondent). At the monthly meeting of the Waitara West Road Board there were present: Messrs. French, Hall, Turnbul), and Surrey. Mr. French was elected chairman of the meeting. Correspondence was read as follows: From the chairman, stating that Messrs. French, Turnbul] and himself, after inspecting the Kelly road bridge, had authorised Mr. Clare to undertake repairs to same; from Mr. F. Wilson, stating that he wae suing for unpaid native Tates; and from the Public Works Department inquiring if any applications for assistance from the Government in the shape of grants for roads or bridges were required this year.— It was decided to apply for a grant of £IOO for metalling the road leading to the Waitara bridge at Huirangi, the ratepayers interested in the Clifton County and this district to find £SO each towards same.

Surfaceman Palmer reported that Haskell and Co. had delivered 60 yards of metal for repairs to Waitara road, 56 yards on Tate road, and had provided 70 yards for Pennington road, which. Mr. Lnxton had carted free. Mr. W. Cartwright. had carted 272 yards for repairs to Kelly road, 60 yards oT which had been dumped . The roads which had been formed with the road grader were: Waitara side track, portions of Trtte, Pennington, Matarikoriko, and Mahoetahi. Karaka road was being damaged by contractors carting stone for the Waitara borough. Surfaceman Giddy reported that Haskell and Co. had finished their Wortley road contract, having delivered 100 yards. The side track on Richmond road had been finished, and metal on the same road raked in.

Mr. French reported he had spen the Mayor of Waitara re damage to Karakea road, and he had promised that any damage done should be made good. It was resolved that a %d general rate for the ensuing year be struck at next meeting. Accounts amounting to £240 were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
