SINGAPORE SHOOTING CASE.
DETAILS BY MAIL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyricrht. Perth, June 15. Details arc to hand of the shooting of Steward at Singapore by Mrs. Proudfoot, wife of a schoolmaster. Mrs. Proudfoot states that she was alone in the bungalow when Steward, who was a friend of the family, called and made violent advances. She seized a revolver and fired five shots into his body at close quarters. Steward is described as a quiet man. Bail in a thousand dollars was allowed. PLEA OF THE DEFENCE. Received 15, 0.35 p.m. Singapore, June 15. The defence pleads that Mrs. Proudfoot was hysterical and her mental equilibrium upset by Steward's assault, and that she did not know what happened after the first shot was fired.
