WAITARA HARBOR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETIKG. The monthly meeting of the Waitara .Harbor Board was held at Waitara on Friday, when there were present: Messrs. W. F. Jenkins (chairman), W. Birdling, Jas. Hine, R. Hicks, J. H. Smith and J. Rattenbury GENERAL. A letter was received from Messrs. W. M. Ballantyne and Co., of Wellington, agreeing to the Board's terms for the lease of a site.for a proposed magazine, and Mr. W. F. Dowsett, engineer, submitted a plan of the proposed site, twp acres. This was approved by the Board, and it was resolved that the proposed site be put up for auction at an ups«t rental of £5 per annum for a 21 years' lease, with the right of renewal. The Railway Department wrote that they would provide.and lay sidings on the wharf'extension, but'it must be distinctly understood that'the inner siding would not be used for any business in connection with Messrs. Hatrick's store. They also notified that two 14 x 9 crossover beams would require to be put it. It was pointed out that the beams were now being put in. Mr. C. G. Rennell, secretary of the New Plymouth Harbor Board, wrote asking if the Board would sell or hire a portable steam hoist, which it was understood they had lately used in pile driving. It was thought that the gear might still be useful to the Board, and the matter was held over.

The secretary reported that, as instructed at last meeting, he had forwarded final notices to ail lessees in arrears with rates. These, however, had only elicited two replies.—lt was resolved to place the remainder in the hands of the Board's solicitor for collection.

Mr. J. H. Lang, assistant harbor master, who had been 10V 2 years in the Board's service, applied for a month's holiday.—Application granted on full pay. Matters in connection with various lenses were discussed. Mr. J. B. Boy, the Board's solicitor, was present, and explained the position in regard to lenses, when it was resolved that the. Board's solicitor be empowered to use the form for future leases in accordance with the schedule of the Public Bodies Leases Act. 1908.

The Marine Department notified that, as certain defects had been found in the working of the Harbors Amendment Act, 1910, and it was proposed to prepare an amending bill, and in order that it might provide for all the amendments that are necessary, they ashed the Board to notify any alterations the Board thought necessary.—No action taken.
