MISAPPROPRIATION. Timaru, Night. Charles Arty, an elderly man, who had been carrying on a cycle repair business in Christchurch under another name, was arrested there on a charge of misappropriation of £l3 10s in March, 1909, the property of C, W. Wood, cycle dealer, Timaru, for whom lie was a country agent. He pleaded guilty. On account of his age, a light penalty was imposed. He was ordered to pay the money in instalments of £2 monthly; in default of any payment, six months' imprisonment. CONTIGUOUS TELEPHONE SERVICE. Timaru, Saturday. The continuous telephone service, which has been going since the Ist in3t., is stated to have been made much use of, and there is some increase in the number of subscribers.
