DISTRICT NEWS.

I EGMOXT ULLAGE. (From Our Own Correspondent). Monday again saw a good attendance at the Boxing Club, and arrangements were made to take a team in for a, spar with the New Plymouth Club on Wednesday. The weather, however, proved too bad to permit the members venturing out, only three making the trip. An attempt is to be made to (get a team together to go in on Monday, and it is to be hoped that the local boys will respond freely. The ranks of the Debating Society were badly thinned on Thursday night, owing, doubtless, to the bad weather. Readings and recitations from Scott, Dickens, Hastie and Mark Twain were the order for the evening, the following contributions being rendered:—Mr. F. Dewhirst, reading from "Tom Sawyer"; Mr. R. G. Marsh, "Martin Chuzzlewitt"; Messrs. A. Morton. (J. F. Dewhirst, M. J. Marsh and Geo. Marsh, "Pickwick Papers"; Mr. G. Foster, "Wavcrley"; nnd Mr. E. Dewhirst, "The Luck of Roaring Camp." The next evening's programme rrill be the delivery of lectures, with questions and criticisms by members. A euchre party and dance, the first ret held this season, will eventuate in the hall on Wednesday next. Favored with fine weather, it should be well patronised. The funds will go towards the cricket club. I

URENUT. (From Our Own Correspondent!. i June 9.—ln spite of the bad weather there was a fair attendance at the second euchre party. More would have been present if the weather had been favorable. Ten tables were filled, and the winners of prizes were as follows: •Ladies, Mrs. J. Burke 1, Miss L. Cutleush 2; gents, Mr. L. O'Donnell 1, J. Falconer 2. The usual dance took place afterwards, and was kept up till 1 a.m. Mr. B. Rowe supplied the music, and Mr. W. O'Donnell made a capable M.C. Our old friend, Mr. R. Pepperell, is back from the hospital, but will not be himself again for some time yet. Our township is deserted to-day, several having gone to the annual" Uruti Races, which are held on the beach at Mimi.
