AUSTRALIAN MAILS.
A WELLINGTON" DEMAND. By Tel:graph.—Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. At a meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday the question of mail connection between Australia and New Zealand was considered. The consensus of opinion was that the needs of the Dominion as a whole would be best served if the inward European mail which now leaves Sydney for Auckland on Wednesday were to leave Sydney for Wellington on Monday. It would then, in the ordinary course, reach Wellington on Friday forenoon, Auckland on Saturday morning, and Dunedin on Saturday evening, which would be a great improvement in every direction. The council felt that if such a change in the inter-colonial steamer time-table involved any extra expense the cost might fairly be met by a subsidy, and to cilfoct this it was decided to approach the Government and steamship companies concerned.
