Batchelor, Federal Minister for External Affairs, interviewed in reference to the Anglo-French position in the New Hebrides, declared the Commonwealth Government was endeavoring to promote an Australian-British interest as far as possible. On the question of the suggested transfer of Fiji to the Commonwealth, he said such a scheme was not contemplated, although in all probability in the future the islands in the Pacific would come under the rule of Australia and New Zealand. He intended to discuss with Mr. Lewis Harcourt (Secretary for the Colonics) details of a. proposed wireless system linking up the Pacific islands.
