AMERICAN POLITICS.

A CRISIS DEVELOPED. | PARTY WARFARE. By Cable —Press As<"v ; ntinn—Copvri<rht Washington, June 2. A crisis has developed in the Senate, and a fight on reciprocity is expected, when the Democratic Free List Bill may be offered as an amendment to 'Mc reciprocity agreement with the object of embarrassing the Democrats. Mr. Taft is using his influence with the Republicans, and hopes to avoid an amendment being proposed which is likely to wreck the Bill. There are daily conferences at the White House, and Mr. Taft is confident that the Senate will pass the reciprocity agreement if amendments are not offered. Democrat senators are ready to reject the Free List Bill amendment if it is certain the Republicans will not stifle the Free List Bill in the committee stage, thus preventing the Democrats recording a straight vote for a free list for meat, (lour, and agricultural implements. But Canada would not agree to putting these articles on her free list. If the United States now free-listed these commodities all nations that come under the most favored nation clause would benefit, and Argentine meats and Australian mutton would be allowed to enter the State, with consequent injury to the American farmer.
