WAITARA-URENUI RAILWAY.

CLIFTON COUNTY COUNCIL RESOLUTION. At the Clifton County Council meeting yesterday the following motion moved by Mr. C. O'Sullivan was carried:— "That the attention of the Government be called to the great desirability of a railway between Waitara and Urcnui for the following reasons: (1 ) That the ordinary traffic on the main road between Urenui and Waitaia has increased to such proportions as tt make a lailway a matter of necessity; (2) that the district has increased rapidly in the past, and in view of pending developments of great importance, the establishment of the railway is thoroughly warranted; (3) that the cost of maintaining the road owing to the abnormal traffic, and great scarcity of suitable metal, imposes an unfair burden on the Clifton County Council, wh'os"e financial resources are exhausted in endeavoring to keep tflie road open for provincial traffic." It was also resolved to ask the Mayor of Waitara to call a public meeting to pass a resolution on the subject.
