A considerable rush has started. RAID ON BETTING SHOPS. Brisbane, May 20. The police raided five alleged betting shops and arrested many persons, including a number of prominent citizens. PAYMENT TO THE STATES. Melbourne, May 29. The Commonwealth's first repayment to the States under the 25s per head arrangement will, with old-age pension reductions, total only x £ 80,520, THE MOTOR-CAR TRADE. Sydney, May 20. The motor-cars and other motor vehicles imported into Australia last year were valued at £830.000, New South Wales paying £282,000, and Victoria £225,000 as their shares. THE VICTORIAN CENSUS. Melbourne, May 20. Nearly six hundred immigrants, including children, selected by the British Immigration League, have arrived during the past few days. The bulk have already secured employment. Many are going to Queensland.
