Following is the High Commissioner's j market report:— Mutton —There is a better tone in the market this week, and the market is firm, notwithstanding largo receipts. Holders are firm. Canterbury is getting very scarce, and is bringing I! 13-lGd per lb;'North Island 3</ 4 d. Lamb—The market is firm, with a hardening tendency. A large shipment is arriving, but there is general and active demand. Canterbury 4%d, other than Canterbury 4'/ a d, Australian 4d (very limited supply). Beef —The market is quiet, with a tendency favoring buyers at about, quotations already given. New Zealand fores 2%, New Zealand hinds 3%d. South American chilled is in large supply and selling at about the same price. Butter—The market is quiet, and small business doing. The Ruabine shipment arrived in good condition. Choicest New Zealand 105s, Danish 108s, Siberian 955, Australian 08s. Cheese—The market continues dull. It has been unfavorably affected by Canadian arrivals. Buyers arc more reserved, and weak holders are giving way. New Zealand 5Ss. The Paiahine shipment arrived in good condition. Hemp The market is quiet but steady. New Zealand good fair spot £2O 10s, fair grade £1!) 10s. The market for Manila is firmer and has been favorably affected by improved American demand owing to an advance in sisal prices. Fair current Manila, spot £l9 10s, forward shipment £2O ss. The output from Manila for the week was 2000 bales.
Cocksfoot seed—The market is very quiet and nothing doing. The season has ended. Nominally, bright clean New Zealand, weighing iylb per bushel, is quoted at 77s fid.
