TIIE TRAWLERS' AWARD. Napier, Tuesday. A sitting of the Conciliation Council was hold, Mr. Tlally presiding, to hear the application bv employers in the trawling industry for a variation of the terms of the agreement in the direction of permitting freedom of contract. The employers contended that under the present award it was impossible to conduct the fishing industry at a profit, and unless a modification was agreed to, the boats would have to lay up and a number of men be thrown out of work. The union would not agree to freedom of contract, and there being no prospects of a settlement, the case was referred to the Arbitration Court. COLD WEATHER. Thames, Tuesday.
