THE DEFENCE FORCES.
GENERAL CODLEY AND THE DENOM-1 3NATIONAL QUESTION. ] By Telegraph—Press Association. Core, Tuesday. Major-Gnneral Godley inspected the Mataura Mounted Riilcs and the Territorials and said it was the largest muster of any mounted company he had yet seen in the Dominion. He expressed pleasure at the appearance of the men. Tn his address t» the citizens, he said that the talk about the denominational question was making a mountain out of a mole-hill. He saw no reason why the senior cadets, if tliev wished to be together, should not he trained together. In Auckland there was a Roman Catholic company; and in Dunedin Hibernian cadets, and in Dunedin and Invercargill they were considering the fermation of a Presbyterian company. There was no objection to this, but it could only happen in the larger centres, as in the country companies they trained all denominations. REGISTRATION FIGURES. Wellington, Tuesday. Up to May 20, 38,273 were registered under the compulsory training scheme for Territorials and senior cadets. To this may be added the estimated 17,500 Territorials and senior cadets at present serving, and who are being registered- on separate lists, making 56,773 accounted for, leaving about 14,227 who must register before June 2 or suffer penalties under ithe Act.
