WINDFALLS FOR GOVERNMENT
HEAVY DEATH DUTIES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. There appears to be every probability that tile amount of revenue derived this vear from stamp duty payable on estates of deceased persons and succession duties will constitute something in the way of a record. No official figures are available, but it is understood that on one estate recently assessed for stamp duty at over a quarter of a million the amount paid was well over C r >o.ooo, that on another estate in the North Island there is every prospect 01 the revenue being increased by from £150,000 to £200,000. [The latter evidently refers to the estate of the late E. ,1. Riddit'ord, who was reported to be a millionaire.]
