Banbury, in comimitee of supply on the Treasury vote, moved a reduction of i Mr. Lloyd-George's salary in order to [ discuss the delay in collecting the income tax. He alleged that the Government was robbing the sinking fund in order to avoid fresh taxation. Mr. Lloyd-George replied that an official mistake had led to the wrong, and to prevent its repetition, the railways of England would hereafter be assimilated to those of Scotland and compelled to pay the tax from January 1. Mr. Bonar Law declared that the Government wns.punisning the railways for having disclosed the facts. Sir E. Cornwall commented on the seriousness of income tax payers being under the rule of permanent officials. The latter were apparently assuming control of the administration. The Unionist attack on the Government failed completely, and Sir F. Banbury's amendment was rejected by 214 to 149.
