NEARLY A WRECK.

MONOWAI IN A THICK FOG. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. While steaming down the coast thij morning between Oisborne and Napier, the steamer Monowai had a somewhat narrow escape from being wrecked. The weather was thick and a heavy mist hung over the sea. fter position was regarded as perfectly secure, when suddenly the mist temporarily cleared, and it was seen that the vessel was heading towards the shore, on which breakers were plainly visible. The Monowai was then about a quarter of mile from land, but the engines were reversed, and after proceeding about a mile out to sea she headed towards Napier, and arrived without any unusual delay.
