THE MEXICAN REVOLT
A BATTLE PROCEEDING. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Mexico City, May 9. A big battle is raging at Juarez. Hundieds on both sides have been killed and wounded. The Federals refuse to "surrender, but it is expected the rebels will get possession this afternoon. A RESULTLESS BATTLE. HOSTILITIES CEASE FOR THE NIGHT REBELS' FABORABLE CHANCES. AMERICA WILL NOT INTERVENE. Received 11, 12.0 a.m. Washington, May 10. Mr. Taft admits that the Mexican situation is grave. All the States except three are involved in the insurrection. Cabinet had discussed the duty of maintaining order on the American Continent, but no foreign Government, Mr. Taft declared, had hitherto suggested that the United States should intervene.
Mexico City, May 10. A report from El Paso is to the effect •that the Juarez battle was resultless, but it will probably be resumed at day-' break.
Five-American trans-frontier spectators were killed and fifteen wounded. The Federal loss does not exceed fifty dead, and the insurrectors' probably he same. The rebels gained the streets of Juarez several time?, but the Federals drove them out under heavy fire. The rebels hold important positions, and if the attack is resumed it is likely they will capture the city. The rebels captured the town Tijuna in Lower California, by assault, seventy being killed and wounded on both sides. DEBATE IN THE AMERICAN SENATE Received 11, 12.(3 a.m. Washington, May 10. Senator Stone attacked President Taft in the Senate debate on the failure to take action to protect the lives of Americans on the Mexican border. He asserted that the despatch of American troops had been a more game of bluff. He suggested that troops should be sent on to Mexican soil to protect Americans, and then retire.
Senator Baeon replied that such an invasion would mean immediate war. The Senate decided to take no action in the matter.
