TARANAKI'S WINTER SHOW.
SHAW, SAVILL TROPHIES. ! Two handsome specimens of the silversmith's art On view in Mp. Newton King's window on Saturday attracted much attention and admiration. They were two cups, each valued at 25 guineas, presented by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co., through Mr. King, the Taranaki agent, for competition at the Taranaki Agricultural Society's winter shows and the Dominion winter shows at Hawera. That presented to the Taranaki Agriculural Society is a cup in a new and very effective design. This is purely a challenge trophy for the export butter class, and bears the following inscription: "Challenge Cup, 1911. Presented by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co., Ltd., to the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society for the Best Box of Factory Butter for Export." The trophy presented to the the Dominion show takes the form of a massive rose bowl, and is for competition among makers of cheese in all classes, and has to be won twice in .succession or three times at intervals to become the property of the winner. The rose bowl bears the following inscription: "Challenge Bowl, 1911. Presented by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co., Ltd., to the Dominion Show, Haw'cra. To be awarded to the maker scoring the highest aggregate number of points in all classes of cheese." This worldwide shipping concern evidently recognises the importance of the dairying industry from a freight-carrying standpoint. The generosity evinced in presenting these valuable prizes for' competition should do much to foster interest and rivalry in the dairy classes at the respective shows, that must have a healthy effect on the industry throughout the province.
