Elsie Joan Atkinson, a well-dressed young woman, who was alleged to be morally deficient, pleaded guilty to the theft of £6 10s and was ordered to 1 be detained in Lyttelton Gaol for two years for reformatory treatment, and kept apart from other prisoners.
