CONCILIATION COUNCIL
TRACTION-ENGINE DRIVERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Masterton, Saturday. A sitting of the Conciliation Council was held in Masterton yesterday afternoon with regard to the proposal in the new award in connection with the stationary, traction and locomotive enginedrivers' dispute, before Mr. P. Ilalley. It was agreed that the arrangement made in respect of the dispute by the Conciliation Council, held in Wellington, be endorsed; that is to say, that the award made by the Court of Arbitration in Otago, dealing with the industry, and having special reference to the employment of engine-drivers, other than those employed on ferry or river steamers, has been adopted. It was agreed in respect to the river and ferry boats award, recently made by the Court at Auckland, that it be accepted subject to the modification that clause ,"> and G, having special reference to traction engine-drivers, and embodied ill the old award, be reinstated in the new agreement. In respect of the preference clause, it is intended that it shall not apply to persons employing traction engine-drivers, that the effect of the clause shall not apply outside a radius of one mile from the chief post office, and only to those persons, lirms and companies who use .it-earn stationary engines.
