A monk mimed Iliodor triumphed over the efforts of the Holy Synod, the Government and the police to remove him from the See of Tsaritzin. Iliodor is regarded as a demigod. His twelve thousand followers form the nucleus of a reform movement in the Orthodox Church, threatening to overturn the hierarchy.
