A WATERY GRAVE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. i 1 Wellington, Tuesday. The steamer Tainui, which arrived in Wellington this morning, reports that shortly before reaching Capetown William Taylor, a third-class passenger, a bricklayer by trade, who had been depressed . since he left England, was reported missing. He left a wife and child at Home. TAINUI FROM LONDON. Wellington, Tuesday. The Tainui arrived from London shortly after 4 o'clock this morning. She had good weather throughout the voyage, and brought a fair number of pasv sengers. ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT. Nelson, Tuesday. Edwin Arnold, last from Wellington, , and not unknown to the police, was charged with indecent assault on an imbecile girl. It is alleged that Arnold went to the girl's parents' house and claimed acquaintance, and his behaviour compelled the people to call assistance, Arnold allegedly being caught in the attempt. He was remanded for a week on heavy bail. BURGLARY AND THEFT. Wairoa, Tuesday. The premises temporarily occupied by Blythe Ltd. were entered by a window last night, and a cash box containing .over £3O was taken. Several cheques were left. MR. T. E. TAYLOR'S EXPLANATION. Cliristchurch, Tuesday. Mr. T. E. Taylor declares that 'the Press Association report of the Reefton meeting was very misleading. The meeting lasted two and a half hours, and the dispute with Mr. Thompson occupied about twenty minutes. The meeting was one of the most orderly he ever addressed in Now Zealand, and a motion in favor of national prohibition was carried with only two dissentients. Mr. Taylor adds that ho had a lino meet- j mg at Runanga, and a fierce fight at Greymouth.
