LABOR FEDERATION
AN AMALGAMATION PROPOSAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The question of the amalgamation of the two Federations of Labor at present existing in the Dominion, the New Zealand Federation of Labor Registered, commonly referred to as tho Miners' Federation, and the New Zealand Trades and Labor Councils Federation of Labor, was discussed at some length by the Trades and Labor Conference to-day the speakers expressing opinions favorable to amalgamation. Mr. R, Breen (Otago) moved, "That the conference be requested to make a further ellort to bring about an amalgamation of th# two federations of labor." After a long discussion, the opinion of speakers being in favor of the proposal, the motion was agreed to unanimously. It was decided to telegraph to the secretary of the Miners' Federation and ask that a conference should be held as early as possible for the purpose of bringing about amalgamation. Mr. McLaren gave notice to move "That a committee be set up to go into the matter and report on the basis of amalgamation."
