SCULLING.

FOG WELL BEATS WHELCH. By Tetogiuph—Pre* Association. Akaroa, Last Night The second contest for the professional sculling championship of New Zealand ensued to-day on Akaroa harbor, W. Fogwell (Australia), challenger, beating the holder, G. Whelcli (Akaroa), by two lengths, after securing the lead at the end of the first mile. The course was in Akaroa harbor, and was 3% miles long. As the result of the race Fogwell secures a purse of £2OO, besides the title. Whelch secures the gate, which, however, was not very large. A sou'wester was blowing, and rain fell during part of the race. Both men got away together, but Whelcli, rowing better, soon secured a lead, and at the end of a fast mile, - was three-quarters of a length to the good. From there Fogwell drew awav, leading once by five lengths, and, despite heroic spurts by Whelcli, he never looked in danger of being headed, winning bv two lengths. The official was 21min. Isec. Interviewed after the contest, Whelcli said he had rowed Ills last race. Fogwell is to row the winner on Saturday of the Pearce-Kemp contest for the championship of Australia.
