ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
REPORTED DROWNING CASE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Wednesday. It is reported that four, Maoris have been drowned at the Waikato Heads. They were three daughters of Hori Thompson, an old Tuakau resident, and a boy fifteen years of age. RAILWAY CROSSING ACCIDENT. Ashburton, Last Night. The driver of a grocer's delivery cart named Walter Anderson had a narrow escape from a very serious accident today. He was driving in the cart over the Tancred street railway crossing and I evidently did not sec the express train from the south approaching. The engine struck the back of the cart, smashing the latter and throwing Anderson on to his head. He sustained a slight concussion, and was severely bruised ano shaken, but serious injuries are not anticipated. There has been one fatal accident and several narrow escapes at similar crossings in the town already •this year. On Monday evening a man named Nesbit was brought to the hospital from Whangamomona suffering from the effects of a blasting accident. It appears that Nesbit, who is employed on the railway construction works, was using; a pick among some clay when the pick struck a dynamite cap which had. been dropped. The cap exploded, throwing stpnes and earth into Nesbit's fade, the result being that he Was badly cut on the, forehead and had one eye injured. It is expected, however, that the injury to the eye will not be serious.—Post.
