I A.R.C. Easter Handicap on- Saturday. Clemora has paid up at Feild'm?. Avondale nominations include Dtnkum —a maiden hurdler. I Colleen Mary is showing signs, of I lameness at Riccarton., 'Chaser Nero has been blistered and turned out for a short spell. On paper Shining Star, 7.3,. well; in the Feilding Cup, but cups, are iiot. run on paper. From Wairarapa news comes that J Provocation is now quite sound again,. but will not be asked to race until the j spring.
The Easter Handicap, favorite,, An-I toinette, fell on the uoads lae-t weekj and has only been doing easy work since. i After paying Government tax 0f£590, a profit of £IOO was made on the recent Manawatu meeting. j On Awapuni form Boanerges must bo reckoned dangerous for Ellerslie engagements. The Highden horse is now at his best.
Electrakoff was brought down to Ellerslie last week, and an Auckland sport writes me that the sprinter is in great, fettle, and is worth watching. j Teotane was bleeding at the nose as usual after racing- at Awapuni. I Clempra and Paritutu have been nominated for cvent9 at the Avondale autumn meeting. | Southern papers report that the Great Easter candidate, Oosono, ig galloping better than ever. i
Jockey E. Lowe will ride Fort William' and Our Queen at Ellerslie. The former I horse is pleasing the touts immensely up north. I Tina Toa is to be tried over the small; sticks. •• js*3i«T C. Price and A. Ollivcr were the only' double-winners amongst the jocksters! competing at Awapttni. , Great interest is sure to be taken when Orton and Miss Winsome measure strides in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes. Orton ran well in the Manawatu Stakes, and is sure to put up a sterling battle. North Pole and Ito, running at Grey- J mouth to-day, will bid adieu to the West' Coast next week, and will be schooled at Hastings for winter racing. I Gold Lace, Obsono, and Los Angelos are quoted favorites for the Great Easter Handicap, and for the Great! Autumn pickers will have nothing but Iranui, Los Angelos, Vice-Admiral and Rose Noble. For winning the Manawatu Stakes Sunburnt puts up lOlbs extra, whicV brings her weight up to Ost lib. j Died in Auckland recently, "Patsy", Butler, an old-time sport. Some of the' best horses he raced were Manton (N.Z. Cup, Canterbury Derby and Cup-winner of 1888); Crackshot, winner of the Canterburv and Auckland Cuns of 1800; and Liberator (crood old "Lib."), winner of the N.Z. Grand National Hurdles (1804), Dunedin Cup (1804). and Great Northern Hurdle Kaee and Great Northern Steeplechase of 1805.
