NO-LICENSE AND LABOR
PROBLEMS FOR A PRESBYTERY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Tiinaru, Last Night. At the Timaru Presbytery to-day a remit from the Assembly suggesting that the Presbytery should urge people to vote no-license gave rise to a discussion. A motion was made that it be left to each minister to help the cause of temperance in the manner that he thinks best, and the seconder added that no-license should not be a test, I question in selecting a minister. An amendment that the Presbytery do urge on the people the desirability of voting no-lieense was carried by six to four. The eight ministers present were equally divided, two elders giving the majority. On another remit expressing sympathy with labor and recommending that Presbyteries where necessary should appoint committee to learn the aims of the labor movement and foster fraternal relations between church and labor, no action was taken, ministers saying they had studied the movement, and that ministers should know no class distinctions, for the majority of church people had to work with hand or brain for a living.
